Savory Spice Shop

I have been going here to get my spices since before they became nationally famous (they have their own food show now!) and this place is awesome. You can find any spice you want and wonderful custom blends. Need cinnamon? They have about 5 kinds! Sold in special plastic bags or spice bottles (for easy packing). Take the free 16th Street Shuttle bus to the end past Market Street, and walk to Platte. Close to REI and the Colt & Gray restaurant.

St Mark’s Coffee Shop

This place is a bit of a walk from the conference hotel, but sounds like a great coffee shop find and would be a fun walk to stretch your legs after conferencing! See this article for the inside scoop on St. Mark’s Coffee Shop in Denver.

Spas!

I had a request to give some suggestions for high-quality spas downtown, not far from the conference hotel. Here you go!

RENAISSANCE AVEDA SPA & SALON
Located at the gorgeous Hotel Monaco, this is a popular day spa.

THE SPA AT THE BROWN PALACE
The spa at the  Brown Palace is located in Denver’s oldest and most elegant hotel. This spa opened in 2006 in a space off the atrium lobby which once housed Turkish baths back in 1892. The spa’s special soaks draw natural spring water from the artesian well which has always provided water for this historic hotel. Waterfalls also form part of the spa’s decor.

SPA UNIVERSAIRE
This spa has a highly-rated location within the conference hotel (the Hyatt Regency Denver).

AVEDA INSTITUTE DENVER
Aveda has a school in downtown Denver and they offer discounted services. This is right on the 16th Street Mall and is very close to the conference hotel as well. Find out more information and book here:

Fun Food Downtown

Here are some indulgences for taking a break during the conference (or hanging out with colleagues at midnight – you know you want too!)

Denver now has a Pinkberry – the trendy yogurt place with exotic and interesting flavors. It is very close to the conference hotel, so check it out when you need a little break or “fun food”.

Pinkberry 16th Street Mall

Denver, CO 80202

The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory ( http://rmcf.com) has high quality chocolates that you can buy by the pound so you can buy just one for your chocolate craving, or a bunch to take back home. (My weakness is their peanut butter chocolate sticks!)

There are two locations downtown.

Rocky Mt Chocolate Factory – in The Pavillions
500 16th St, Denver, Colorado – (303) 629-5500
(The Pavilions is a big outdoor mall complex on 16th Street that spans several blocks, you can’t miss it!). This is quite near the hotel.

Rocky Mt Chocolate Factory at Writer’s Square
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Writer’s Square, 1512 Larimer St., Denver, CO 80202
Tel: 1-800-322-2854 or (local) 303-623-1887
This location is on the 16th Street Mall, right near the shuttle stop at 16th and Larimer, in Writer’s Square.

Sanfe Fe Cookie Co (aka “The Cookie Lady)
She is open from 10am to 3pm and has been called the “best secret cookie place in Denver.” Check out http://www.denverpost.com/ci_12497797 for more info and to see a photo.

The deal is, 3 great cookies for $1 on the honor system: just stick a buck in the bucket (or change on the counter). My friends say it’s “YUM!” and that the cookies go fast!

To get to the Cookie Lady in the Republic Plaza food court, you access the food court from the 16th Street Mall by walking down a set of stairs to access it (it is near a Starbucks – thought that doesn’t tell you much, since there are about 15 Starbucks downtown!). The Cookoie Lady is next to the card shop AvantCard.
